"Best of all is that I can relax, follow the instructions given and know that I am being led by an incredibly talented musician and teacher."
IMPROVING DOESN'T NEED TO BE COMPLICATED!
But there are a few key reasons you aren't making the progress you want...
❌ Falling for the Pointless Practice Trap without a plan to progress
❌ Going through the motions on the same boring warm-up exercises
❌ Watching helpful YouTube videos, but not knowing what you don't know
❌ Focusing on a skill (or equipment upgrade!) unaware of what's being neglected
Can you relate to this "progress" cycle?
Step 1:
Try to do it on your own, while encountering the same problems day in and day out, and eventually getting so frustrated that you quit or move on to Step 2.
Step 2:
Buy a book or course, watch some YouTube videos on something you are struggling with, or take some lessons hoping you will get the info you need to move forward.
Step 3:
You do the new thing and make a little progress, but without understanding the deeper how and why behind it you end up back at Step 1 with another book on your shelf collecting dust...
Why does it always work out this way?
The Pointless Practice Trap!
You may have heard the idea of the 10,000-Hour Rule which says it takes 10,000 hours to master something, so you are diligently doing your reps hoping that someday everything will click...
Repetition is the mother of learning, but it doesn't take 10,000 hours, and the big trap is that:
Practice ≠ Perfect
Practice = Permanent
You are probably putting in hours of practice, but if you aren't properly programing your brain, the progress will be slow.
And, if you keep doing mediocre reps thinking, "I should be able to do better. One more try and I will get it (after you've already done it 50 times...)", then you my friend, have fallen into the Pointless Practice Trap!
If you are getting physically tired before mentally tired, your practicing could be much more effective! 🎤
THERE IS A BETTER WAY
You already know your way around the clarinet and music. All we need to do is leverage it a little better!
Picture this..
- Every rep has purpose so you can get in and out of practice knowing you are progressing
- You can break down and understand any piece of music so you play like a "natural"
- The clarinet becomes a tool to make music with rather than an unpredictable obstacle
If you are ready to be at that point in your journey, then NextStep Clarinet is for you!
The NextStep Difference
Step 1:
Understand the science of learning and how the brain absorbs information, so deliberate practice finally sticks and you can make every rep count.
Step 2:
Discover the core fundamentals of the clarinet, along with my go to exercises that I've used to help hundreds of students of all ages and abilities to reliably find their best sound, articulate clear and soft on the high notes, and finally get their fingers up to tempo.
Step 3:
Unlock the #1 skill of musicianship, which is the secret to more confident sight reading. When I learned how to do this, I started excelling in auditions and making honor bands.
